So, how does an SEO company guarantee high rankings like that?
Well, you have to read the small print to find out. They usually can get you those results by doing one of two things:
1. PPC (Pay Per Click)
They will rank your site by paying for placement in the pay per click ads. I have seen quite a few companies do this and most of their customers have no idea that the PPC spots they are “ranked” high in are actually paid ads. Most of the companies using this technique are charging a much higher premium for PPC ads then your average PPC company so be careful to avoid them. You won’t be happy with the results.
2. They Rank You For Terms Nobody Searches For
The small print usually says something along the lines of “we will rank you in the top ten results for keyword phrases that we believe someone might search for when looking for your business.”
What that means is that if you have a “flower shop in Houston”, they will rank for you “#1 best flower retail shop in the Houston, TX area near 249 and Grant Road.” Of course, after writing that sentence it is highly likely that this post will rank high for “#1 best flower retail shop in the Houston, TX area near 249 and Grant Road.”, because nobody will put text like that on their website so there is no competition for the keyword. Of course, it’s highly doubtful there is any traffic for the term, either.
